imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday reviewed performance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as well as Islamabad police and directed to further improve it.

The meeting was attended among others by Secretary Interior, Chief Commissioner and Deputy commissioner Islamabad, Acting IGP Islamabad and senior officials of FIA, Islamabad Police and Ministry of Interior.

The Minister reviewed the performance report of FIA during 2015 and its progress in mega corruption cases. The law and order situation in Capital, security audit and measures being adopted for effective policing were also reviewed.

The meeting was told that FIA launched crackdown against human smugglers throughout the country and nabbed 827 persons including 218 proclaimed offenders, 71 court absconders, 13 most wanted criminals and 525 other accused.

The minister said that human smugglers exploit the poor and do not bring good name to the country. He directed strict action against them without any discrimination and said those showing good performance against human smuggling would be awarded.

Chaudhry Nisar said that all institutions should have to coordinate to combat human smugglers and bring them to justice.

The minister was told that FIA recovered Rs 11.46 billion during 2014-15 following which he directed to further improve it and take action against black sheep in the department.

Ch. Nisar said that European Union had supported the stance on the issue of deprotees which reflects their confidence on efforts of Interior Ministry and FIA against human smugglers.

About security measures in the Capital, the minister was told that effective plan had been made for security around 1172 educational institutions, 25 media houses and other important buildings.

The Minister directed to issue `special tags' to vehicles registered with Islamabad Excise and Taxation Authority in order to avoid inconvenience to motorists.

The meeting was briefed about `safe city project' which is to be implemented in near future. For improvement in policing system, it was told that online complaint management system, crime management and response system have been introduced while record of police stations had been also computerized.

The minister also summoned a meeting on February 11 (Thursday) to review the security steps around media houses and educational institutions which would be attended by officials of CDA, district administration, Islamabad police and representatives of media houses.
