imageISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Tuesday referred a private member Bill seeking to amend the Constitution to replace the official language of the country from English with Urdu.

The bill was moved by legislators of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Ms Asiya Nasir, Molvi Agha Muhammad, Molana Ameer Zaman and Ms Naeema Kishwer Khan.

According to statement of Objects and Reasons of the Bill, arrangements shall be made for replacement of English language with Uredu as per requirements of Article 251 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which says Urdu should be used as official language and for other purposes within fifteen years from the commencing day.

But no effort has so far been made to replace English with Urdu and our leaders also use English language in the proceedings of National and Provincial Assemblies and National and International conferences, meetings and seminars representing Pakistan.

Such attitude towards National language demonstrates a shabby image of Pakistan to National and international Community. It also shows inferiority complex image of Pakistani National.

If we observe the leaders of other National they use their own Nation of language in any meeting in any country.

The concerned quarters should make efforts and implement it by specifying an exact date for replacing English with Urdu.
