imageISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Zahid Hamid has called for restructuring and revamping organizations working under the Ministry.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of Pakistan Council of Industrial & Scientific Research (PCSIR) and National Institute of oceanography (NIO).

Dr. Munawar Saleem, Director General of NIO briefed the minister about the organization, its administrative setup and the current issues being faced by NIO.

The minister lauded the role of the organization for its achievements in marine research, the discovery in the extension of continental shelf, which is under ratification level at the UN, which once ratified 50000 km increase in the geographical areas of Pakistan.

The minister also sought a complete report regarding the submerging of the land due to intruding of sea at district Thatta in Sindh.

The Minister assured full support in terms of strengthening of the organization viz-a-viz, staff, equipments and upgaradation of its labs to multiply its performance.

Regarding the role of PCSIR, the federal minister stressed on the demand driven research and development programmers, lead to strengthening of commercialization of its products.

He directed that all the Reserach and Development organizations of the MoST should submit their work plan which made them self sufficient with in three years. It was also decided that any researcher who produce a new product and have a successful commercialization will be given monetary incentives.

In the meeting Federal Secretary for Science and technology Kamran Ali Qureshi and Senior officers of the ministry were also present.
