imagePESHAWAR: Senior politician and leader of Awami National Party (ANP), Senator Azam Khan Hoti passed away due to protected illness in Mardan district on Wednesday.

He was 69. According to family sources, Azam Khan Hoti was suffering from cancer since long and breathed his last this morning.

He was the father of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and brother of Chairperson ANP-Wali Begum Naseem Wali Khan.

Azam Hoti was twice elected as Member National Assembly(MNA) from Mardan in 1990 and 1997 on ANP ticket and twice served as Federal Minister for Communications during the PML-N governments in 1991 and 1997.

Hoti was also elected as senator twice in 1993 and later in 2012. He also remained an active member of different Senate Standing Committees.

People in large number were coming at Hoti House Mardan and offering Fateha for his departed soul. Arrangements have been finalized for his burial at his native graveyard in Mardan.
