ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Post has earned Rs.526.29 million in foreign exchange during last three years period.
This was stated by Minister for Postal Services Sardar Muhammad Umar Gorgaij while highlighting the three years performance of his ministry.
He said that similarly Pakistan Post has earned Rs.224.266 million during period of 2007-08, while in 2008-09 Rs 348.137 mln and Rs 472.454 mln during 2009-10.
The minister said Pakistan Post established 55 Small Centres of Express Post Services in accordance with a directive of the Prime Minister and has added value to its various postal and parcel services.
He said that distribution of the Benazir Income Support Programme money among deserving poor women and their families is a task the Pakistan Post has been discharging as a national duty in the democratic government's poverty alleviation initiative.
Sardar Gorgaij said that International postal service links with almost all countries of the world and direct mail links have been extended to 166 postal administrations around the world.
He said that the Pakistan Post also caters to the needs of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) countries including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
"The system was upgraded consequent upon ECO postal services meeting held in Islamabad in June 2009," he said.
The minister said that Pakistan Post is currently expanding its Counter Automation System to all General Post Offices (GPOs) aims at computerizing the Post Office counter. He said it provides state-of-the-art point of sale terminals which can handle all the counter operations and ensures integrated service provision at each counter.
"For further convenience of the working class community who cannot spare time to visit Post Offices in order to pay their bills, the facility of utility bill payment (Gas and Telephone) has also been extended at their doorstep, through cross cheque on a nominal charge of Rs.20/-, he informed.
He said that the doorstep collection facility is currently available in Karachi only which will shortly be extended to other stations.
He said that Pakistan Post keeping with the imperatives of market forces introduced new products to respond to customer needs for a faster, efficient and cost effective message services including Urgent Mail Service (City-to-City), Urgent Mail Service (Local) and Express Mail Service (EMS) International.
An official of Pakistan Post added that a number of Information Technology projects have been completed in order to enhance efficiency of Postal Services and compete private sector.
"A complete web-enabled tracking and monitoring system for disbursement of funds for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been developed," he informed.
He said that six line call centers with one toll free number (9262077, 2089, 0269, 2145, 0261, 1618, 0800-17861) has been established in the computer cell for receiving complaints from the BISP beneficiaries.
He said that online complaint lodging facility from the web- portal of Pakistan Post www.pakpost.gov.pk has been provided for the public.
"The software for Postal Life Insurance (PLI) has been developed at 8 field units including office of GM PLI," he said.
He said the computerization of Chief Controller Stamp has been completed and deployment of the application at Zonal Stamp stores is under process.
He said that during the last 3 years twenty fresh postal buildings were constructed while 168 post offices building were renovated, adding that 31 commemorative postage stamps on diverse themes and public and services stamps have been issued during last three years.
