shahbaz-sharif 400RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate the newly constructed building of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) on Sept 21.

 

The out-patient department (OPD) of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) was made operational on Sept 7 though informally as Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate formally the RIC OPD on September 21.

 

On the inaugural day, the RIC operated its OPD with the help of 24 doctors, 46 paramedics, four head nurses, five dispensers, two laboratory technicians, three laboratory assistants and one medical technologist.

 

At present, the RIC does not have its laboratory services operational.

 

It is worth mentioning here that the RIC is a mega project involving a budget of nearly Rs2.6 billion. In the PC-I, a total of Rs2,580 million were allocated for the RIC that on evision became slightly over Rs2,595 million.

 

A budget of Rs942 million was allocated for civil works that has almost completed, while Rs369 million have been allocated for operations and management (O & M).

 

Member National Assembly (MNA) Muhammad Hanif Abbasi talking to APP said that OPD of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) has started functioning from Sept 7 and patients are being checked up and provided treatment facilities.

 

He informed that 24 Heart Specialist Doctors and 50 Para-medical staff have joined their duties in the institute.

 

He said, state of the art medical treatment facilities would be provided to the heart patients at Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC).

 

The MNA said that all modern facilities for the heart patients will be available under one roof and state of the art medical treatment facilities to be provided to the patients of the region.

 

He informed that lifts have been installed in the hospital aimed at facilitating the patients and their attendants. He said heavy duty generators and air-conditioning system have also been provided.

 

He further informed that work for the development of sewerage system for the hospital is underway which would be completed within few days.
