LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) recovered Rs5.8 billion from gas pilferers after conducting 19,000 raids during the period from January 1 to July 10 in various localities of Lahore region.
An officer from SNGPL told APP on Sunday that only 52 percent FIRs could be got registered against gas pilferers under 462 Gas Act due to non-cooperative attitude by the police.
He said the company had constituted a special task force which conducts raids on regular basis and disconnect by-pass connections and refer gas pilferage cases to the police concerned.
He said, whenever task force officials approach police for the registration of cases, they do not cooperate and in most cases accused were released by getting bribe.
He claimed that special task force never enjoy police protection while carrying out raids against gas pilferers.
