PM removes Awan, appoints Asim Bajwa as new special assistant for information

(Karachi) In a surprising move, Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed former DG ISPR Asim Saleem Bajwa as the new Special Assistant for Information, media has reported. The development comes after the federal government de-notified Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Information Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday.

The PM also appointed PTI leader Shibli Faraz as Federal Information Minister.

Earlier, the government appointed retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa as chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (CPECA).

Bajwa had served as Commander Southern Command before his retirement. He remained director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations from 2012 to 2016.

Meanwhile, Shibli Faraz had served as chairman of the Senate’s standing committee on commerce.  Shibli is also a member of committees responsible for planning and development, water and climate change.
