A large number of members of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Cooperative Housing Society (AMUOBCHS) held a protest against the land mafia involved in illegal business of their plots and encroachment of the land on Friday.

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Cooperative Housing Society (Scheme-33) held a protest outside the Supreme Court Karachi Registry Office. Dozens of protesters gathered holding banners inscribed with slogans against the land mafia.

The protestors appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to immediately issue orders for removal of encroachments from the land to avoid construction of commercial plazas and shops.

The areas allocated for schools, parks/grounds and hospitals have been replaced with commercial shops, factories and illegal activities.

The protestors informed media that the government has failed to remove encroachments from the land of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Cooperative Housing Society (Ltd) due to insufficient machinery and manpower.

The society was registered in 1968 and the land was alloted by graduates of Aligarh University and their families.

In the past, different government agencies, including the anti-encroachment department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the police, tried to take action but failed, due to insufficient machinery and police force.
