Anti-Smuggling staff of Customs Faisalabad has unearthed cases worth Rs400 million during last 6 months while only Rs30 million to Rs40 million cases were caught during the preceding 6 months, said Additional Collector Customs (Anti-smuggling) Ghulam Nabi Kamboh.

Addressing the business community in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), he termed smuggling as a menace for the national economy and said that it is duty of every patriotic Pakistani to play his role in weeding out this potential threat. He said that elements involved in smuggling were actually a risk to the national sovereignty and they must be dealt with an iron hand.

Regarding his overall strength of staff, he said that it is insufficient to have men at every entry point of Faisalabad. "However, it does not mean that we would show slackness", he told and added that anti-smuggling staff was ready to face the challenge and our performance has witnessed 800 percent improvement as compared to the previous six months. He said that recently anti-smuggling staff has recovered 500 smuggled LCDs from a congested market of Faisalabad.

Similarly, a huge quantity of dry fruit has been recovered from a go-down while the owners of this place had no import document. He assured that anti-smuggling staff will hit the major smugglers instead of wasting its energies on petty matters.

Earlier, President FCCI Rana Sikandar Azam in his welcome address introduced FCCI. He said that being a patriotic Pakistani no one could support smuggling but it is very surprising that smuggled goods are being traced in Faisalabad which is far away from the national borders. He said that Faisalabad is a big market and our importers have to buy goods from bordering cities but they are nabbed when their goods are poured into this city.
