Assets beyond means: statement of NAB's officer recorded in Dar case

The Accountability Court hearing the assets beyond means case against former finance minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday recorded the statement of investigation officer of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir hearing the corruption case against Dar recorded the statement of NAB's Investigation Officer and prosecution witness Nadir Abbas.

Prosecutor NAB Afzal Qureshi and counsel for accused Qazi Misbah appeared before the court. Misbah crossed-examined the witness for sometime and then the court adjourned the hearing. The defence counsel will continue cross-examination of the witness on the next hearing.

The anti-graft body filed a supplementary reference against Dar on February 26 last year. The reference comprises seven volumes and includes 24 witnesses and three co-accused namely former president of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Saeed Ahmed, Mansoor Raza Rizvi and Naeem Mehmood, both directors of Dar's companies. The three accused were present in the courtroom during the hearing.

During the previous hearings, the NAB produced details of 15 bank accounts of Dar, his wife and companies before the court. According to the NAB, Dar opened three bank accounts in his name while three others are held by his company, Hajveri Holdings (PVT) Limited.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till December 4 and the defense counsel would continue cross-examination of the investigation officer on the next hearing. The court also re-listed the announcement of judgment on applications against the attachment of properties of Hajveri Trust and Hajveri Foundation till December 4.
