Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who remained under treatment here at Services Hospital for 16 days, on Wednesday shifted to his Jati Umra residence where an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has been established under the supervision of a team of doctors.

Nawaz left the Services Hospital along with his mother and other family members, including daughter Maryam Nawaz who was formally released from custody after an accountability court issued her robkar (release orders). Nawaz was brought from the Services Hospital in an ambulance under the supervision of doctors from the Sharif Medical City. He walked towards the ambulance outside the hospital without any support. The PML-N workers welcomed their leader with rose petals and chanted slogans as he came out of the hospital.

Head of the medical board Prof Dr Mehmood Ayaz gave the medical file and reports of the former premier to the doctors of the Sharif Medical City. He said that now medical board stands dissolved and doctors of Sharif Medical City would treat him. He said Nawaz has been advised different medicines.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, in a statement, said that an Intensive Care Unit has been set up at the former premier's residence and the doctors have put a ban on people from visiting him.

Due to low platelet counts, there were chances that an infection might develop, and the doctors suggested the setting up of a special medical unit in Jati Umra, she said. "The ICU was set up under the supervision of Nawaz Sharif's personal physician Dr Adnan Khan; the doctors will be present in the ICU round the clock." She said that ICU ventilator and cardiac facilities have also been provided.

It may be noted that Nawaz Sharif was to be shifted to Sharif Medical City Hospital on Tuesday, but since the release orders for his daughter could not be obtained, the former premier had decided to delay his departure from the hospital so the two could leave together.
