A city magistrate on Tuesday sent Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd), PML-N leader and son-in-law of Mian Nawaz Sharif, to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

Muhammad Safdar was arrested in Lahore on Monday late night from Ravi Toll Plaza on his way from Bhaira to Lahore allegedly for delivering a provocative speech. Earlier, the prosecutor produced video of speech of the accused before the court and argued that police arrested him in some serious allegations and added that he was also convicted by a court of law. He produced a video of Safdar and demanded his physical remand.

The counsel for the accused contended that a citizen could not be arrested on the behest of anyone. He under the law government had to issue a notification for his detention but the same was not done. The court, however, rejected the plea of the prosecution and sent Safdar on 14-day judicial remand.
