4805PESHAWAR: The Government has directed Political Agents and District Coordination Officers (DCO) to personally monitor progress of the anti-polio campaigns in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and Fata so that every child could get Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) during three days campaigns started on Monday.

Dr Jan Baz Afridi, Deputy Director EPI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told APP that Political Agents in Fata and DCOs in Khyber Pakthunkhwa have been mandated to personally supervise campaigns against polio in their respective jurisdictions and ensure that every child could get the facilities near their doorsteps.    He said strict mechanism of check and balance has been put in place and staff showing excellent performance would be facilitated.

The National Highway and Motorway Police besides Traffic Police are also assisting the Health Department and have setup special booths and counters for administration of OPV to children under five years of age.

Special counters were also setup in public places including bus stops, airports and motorway for facilitation of general public to vaccinate their kids.       Dr Jan Baz said the campaign was underway smoothly in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

In Swat, Dir Lower and Karak District, he said, the campaign was smoothly in progress in high risk union councils.

The Lady Health Visitors and officials of Health Department are visiting house to house by administering the vaccine to children.

He said 10799 teams have been formed for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa out of which 9191 were mobile teams, 986 fixed teams and 619 were transit teams. As many as 2047 area in-charges have been hired to ensure vaccination to 3.7 million children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 0.3million in Fata, he added.
