KARACHI: Inspector General Police ( IGP ) Sindh Doctor  Kaleem Imam has received as many as 402 complaints against police on his personal WhatsAap number since October, 5, 2018 till March 20, 2019.

Months back, Imam had shared his WhatsApp number - 03000021881 for the general public, asking them to lodge complaints against police if they refuse to lodge FIRs or they demand undue money.

People can also approach the IG via WhatsApp number if their relatives, friends etc are illegally arrested by police or police was indulge in any corruption.

Sharing the number was primarily aimed at encouraging people to report any illegal activities easily against policemen.

The complaints were received from different cities/ towns of the province.

One each case against non-registration of complaints also received from Larkana, Ghotki, Dadu, Malir's Shaheed Benazir Abad, Lyari, Omer coat. These cases were later registered after the intervention of IG.

Of the total 402 complains received by IG, some 236 were sent to the concerned DIGs who resolved 115 cases while the remaining 121 are currently being resolved.

These cases were pertaining to illegal arrests and non-registrations of complaints.

The experts believe that number of crime cases like child abuse, forced abduction, violation of rights at workplace go unreported in Pakistan due to different reasons particularly because of pathetic attitude of police, and prolonging judicial process.

Kaleem has requested masses to keep an eye on their surroundings, neighbourhoods and promptly report with Police stations, police helpline numbers etc in case of any suspicious activities, bag, car or any other unforeseen incident take place.
