Workers' remittances seem to have again come to our rescue. According to media reports, the country has received record $21.84 billion inflows of home remittances during the last fiscal year (FY19) supported by higher inflows from the US, the UK and Saudi Arabia. Overseas Pakistani workers remitted $21.84 billion during July-June of FY19 compared with $19.912 billion during the same period in the preceding year (FY18), showing a growth of 10 percent of $1.92 billion.
This has been done by the overseas Pakistanis to help boost the country's beleaguered economy. The question why our exports are still stagnant needs a plausible answer. My other question is with regard to near absence of FDI. Why have we failed to take steps aimed at attracting much-needed FDI?
