A special committee has been constituted by Council of Common Interests (CCI) to discuss, review and determine the issue of Net Hydel Profits (NHP) among the key stakeholders pledged to complete the task before the commence of the next CCI meeting and will present recommendations in the forthcoming meeting.
This was decided here on Friday during the meeting of panel chaired by the Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar, who is also the deputy chairman of Planning Commission. The panel also agreed carrying on to deliberate upon the issue of determination of rates/net profits for early resolution of the issue and submit its report to the forthcoming meeting of the CCI. The meeting discussed in detail the report of Technical Sub-Committee (TSC) which had been formed under the chairmanship of secretary Power Division to ponder over the issue of determination of rates/net profits.
The meeting also deliberated upon the point of view of all the key stakeholders in the matter including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and CPPA-G.
The minister expressed optimism to resolve all outstanding issues regarding determination of NHP. The Committee agreed that payment of NHP to provinces is a constitutional obligation.
Adviser to KP Chief Minister, chief secretary, secretaries of Planning, Water Resources, Power Division and IPC, member Energy and senior officials from relevant ministries also attended the meeting.
