Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar and KMC Officers Welfare Association (OWA) have agreed to carry out the projects proposed by the latter to establish 100 public bathrooms, 100 gyms, 500 bus stop shelters and repairing and maintenance of 100 old buildings and plantation of one million trees.
These will be joint projects of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and KMCOWA whose general secretary Bilal Manzar along with the governing body members called on Mayor Waseem Akhtar at his office. They briefed him on the said schemes.
The statement from KMC issued on Monday stated that the KMC OWA intends to construct 100 bathrooms in the city for the use of 800,000 people daily. As many as 500 bus stop shelters are also planned to facilitate over 8.5 million people. In 100 gyms, around one million people will perform exercise. One million trees will be planted at Malir and Lyari naddi (rills) as well as open places in the city.
Bilal Manzar said that repair and maintenance of 100 old and historic buildings will be performed and work will begin within 45 days. Wasim Akhtar lauded them for the project and termed it a public welfare project. Members of KMC OWA are Karachiites and their all good proposals will be implemented, he said.
