Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Authority has sealed more than 1400 premises and imposed Rs66million in fines on eateries for flouting food safety rules during last one year. Rs43million were generated on head of license and registration during the aforementioned period, it was revealed in an annual performance report of the KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority issued here.
It added that the Authority has received unprecedented response since the introduction of online license system to make the process of getting a food license easier for sellers and manufacturers of foodstuff and processed so far 8,000 applications via E license System within the minimum time span of three months.
Similarly, the report informed that as many as 27,000 food outlets inspected while total 46,000 inspections were conducted during the last one-year. It further revealed that more than 600 food handlers were trained and medically screened where 18 out of these were found infected with Tuberculosis and Hepatitis.
It furthermore said that more than seventy thousand litres of adulterated milk discarded in Peshawar while more than 60 tankers were poured into drains in various crackdowns across the province.
The report said the KP Food Authority actively responded to public complaints and so far eleven hundred complaints been resolved across the province. It added more than ninety thousand kilograms of adulterated spices and bran been discarded in last six months of operations against spices industry.
