Consultations are underway to select best of the best in-form players for the World Cup 2019 squad that is likely to be announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on April 18. The national selection committee headed by chief selector Inzamamul Haq has already invited 23 probable players for a fitness test, which will be held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on April 15 and 16. The World Cup squad would be finalized with the consultation of all the stake holders.
The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to depart for England on April 23 where they will take on England in a series of practice and international matches, before starting their World Cup campaign against West Indies on May 31 at Trent Bridge. Pakistan cricket team skipper Sarfraz Ahmad in an interview said best team would be selected consisting of top in-form players for the World Cup 2019. "It was the dream of every captain to win a World Cup for his country," he said, hoping that Pakistan would play in the final of the mega event.
Sarfraz Ahmad predicted that Australia, New Zeeland, India and Pakistan would emerge as four top teams in the World Cup 2019. "Pakistani cricket team has to show best performance to win the cup," he added.
Sarfraz said the team had alternate players in case of injury to any player during the tournament, he informed. He said Hassan Ali had played well during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and hopefully Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman would perform well as openers in the mega event.
Terming Muhammad Amir as a good fast bowler, Sarfraz said unfortunately he could not succeed in getting wickets in last few series. The decision regarding his selection for the mega event would be taken soon, he added. He also appreciated the performance of Umar Akmal and Ahmad Shehzad in PSL 2019, saying that Moeen Khan had played a vital role in improving their performance.
He further said Muhammad Hasnain was a good fast bowler but stressed to polish him by imparting further training so that he could perform well in future. "We have established a pool consisting of 23 players and selection for the World CAup would be made from this pool," he disclosed.
