A considerably increase in prices of vegetable, sugar, flour, pulses ,except chicken meat and eggs was noticed in retail market, according to survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday. Traders in the provincial capital's local market said that the prices of veggies have increased due to their export to Afghanistan and low yield of the commodities. However, they expressed hope that the commodities yield would improve in coming months that would help decrease prices of essential food items. The survey noticed a variation in rates of vegetable, pulses, chicken meat, and sugar in the open markets of Peshawar. It was witnessed that prices of tomatoes have further jumped to Rs 120 per kilogram from Rs 100 per kilogram in retail market. Likewise, onion price also increased to Rs 50 per kilogram from Rs 40 per kilogram in open market.
An upward trend was witnessed in price of ginger as it was available at Rs 240 and Rs 280 per kilogram which was being sold at Rs 200 per kilogram a week earlier. However, rates of garlic remained unchanged as being sold at Rs 80 and Rs 120 per kilogram in open market. A sharp increase in prices of green chilli was registered in retail market as it was available at Rs 300 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 100 per kilogram a few weeks back. Lemon is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogram. Carrots are being available at Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kilogram. Raddish is priced at Rs 100 and Rs 150 per bundle.
Similarly, the price of Arvi has shot up to Rs 100 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 50 per kilogram last week. Capsicum is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogram, while peas are being sold at Rs 60 and Rs 80 per kilogram. Cauliflower is being sold at Rs 40 per kilogram, cabbage at Rs 50 per kilogram. Apple, round gourds are being sold within the range of Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kilogram.
Turnip is being sold at Rs 50 per kilogram against the price of Rs 40 per kilogram. Bringle priced at Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kilogram. Bitter gourd (Karela) is being sold at Rs 80 per kilogram. Ladyfinger was available at Rs 80 and Rs 100 per kilogram. According to the survey, price of live chicken/meat has gone down to Rs 166 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 178 per kilogram. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 110 against the rate of Rs 120 per dozen. Cow meat priced at Rs 350 per kg and Rs 400 per kilogram, while mutton is being sold at Rs 800 per kilogram.
The survey noticed that prices of pulses have remained at high-side in open market. Big-size channa is being sold at Rs 150 per kilogram while the small sized was available at Rs 140 per kilogram. Toota rice is available at Rs 70 and Rs 80 per kilogram. Dal mash is being sold at Rs 140 per kilogram in open market.
Dal moonge was available at Rs 135 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 140 per kilogram last week. White lobiya is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogram, dal channa at Rs 120 per kg, Dhoti dal at Rs 140 per kilogram, dal masoor at Rs 100 per kg, dal chilka (green) at Rs 140 per kg, while dal chilka (black) at Rs 160 per kilogram in retail market.
Price of gram flour (baisen) has decreased to Rs 125 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 130 per kilogram last week.
The survey noticed that price of almost all brand and quality of ghee/cooking oil has increased to Rs 5 per kilogram/litre as available at Rs 175 per kg/litre, Rs 185 and Rs 190. Price of sugar has increased to Rs 65 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 60 per kilogram last week. A sharp increase in the prices of spices was also noticed in open market.
Fruits, as a staple food, show an upward trend in the provincial capital. Apples are being sold at Rs 120 and Rs 150 per kilogram. Pomegranate is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogram, orange at Rs 80 per dozen, kinnow at Rs 60 per kilogram. Guava is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogram in local market.
