Rich tributes were paid to Ch Rehmat Elahi, an old guard of the Jamaat-e-Islami and a close associate of Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maudoodi, and eminent educationist and preacher, Professor Dr Muhammad Aslam Siddiqui, at a memorial reference held in their honour at a local hotel.
Acting Ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Liaqat Baloch, who presided over the function, said that both these personalities had devoted their lives to the service of Islam and for the establishment of an Islamic welfare society in the country.
The function was also addressed by Dr Samiha Raheel Qazi, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, Amirul Azeem, Mubashir Luqman and Zikrullah Mujahid. Liaqat Baloch said that Ch Rehmat Elahi was a role model in national politics and a prudent personality. He was known for his firm faith in the supremacy of the constitution and the law. The services of Ch Rehmat Elahi as a Federal Minister would be written in golden words, he added.
The JI Acting Ameer urged the Ulema and the Mashaikh to accept the challenge of the time and safeguard the Islamic ideological character of the country. They should also provide the mechanism for the enforcement of the Islamic economic system and make their own efforts towards that goal, he added.
Liaqat Baloch said that Islam fully protected the women rights but the secular lobby in the country had pitted the women folk against the UIlema through a conspiracy. Therefore, he said, the Ulema and Mashikh should come forward and highlight the rights given to the women by Islam. Besides, he said, the religious scholars should stand united for the protection of the faith in the Khatm-e-Nubuwwat.
Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha said that Ch Rehmat Elahi and Dr Aslam Siddiqui were the beacon of light for the Muslim Ummah and heir services towards Islam, the society and in politics would always be remembered.
