Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Preventive has foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of foreign origin hormones injections, which induce cows to produce more milk, at Karachi International Airport. According to details, credible information was received by preventive staff, which revealed that huge quantity of foreign origin hormones injections were going to be smuggled into the country by a passenger coming from Johannesburg, South Africa via Abu Dhabi by EY-221.
Therefore, the customs staff obtained passenger manifest of flight to identify passenger coming from Johannesburg for thorough examination. As a result of said exercise, a Pakistani passenger namely Muhammad Zeeshan Hashim was spotted. He was asked to declare whether he was carrying any contraband goods in his baggage. On his refusal to have any contraband goods in his possession, he along with baggage was diverted to the customs scanner where scanned images revealed the presence of huge quantity of injections in two suitcases.
Resultantly, both suitcases were referred to the customs examination counter for detailed examination. The preventive staff during physical examination recovered 5980 injections of Boostin/ Somatotropin, which induce cows to produce more milk and was declared as contraband goods by customs department, from two suitcases. Consequent upon recovery, the contraband goods have been seized and FIR was lodged against Zeeshan. Further investigation is in progress.
