Developed and under developed countries should keep bilateral relations to utilize each other technology and to compete the challenges of new era. Denmark embassy will play its role to provide each possible assistance and has desired that textile industrialists of Pakistan utilize water treatment technology of Denmark.
These views were expressed by Ms. Bente Schiller, Deputy Head of Mission, Denmark Embassy, Islamabad, addressing to the Office-bearers & Members Executive Committee of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), at APTPMA House, Faisalabad.
She said that an MOU has been signed between Denmark and WASA Faisalabad, for installation of a waste water treatment plant for the industrial and especially the textile industrial waste water treatment plant which will treat/clean 45 million gallon waste water for agricultural purpose. Work on this project will be started very soon.
She also assured her cooperation to APTPMA to coordinate with companies manufacturing the waste water treatment plants in Denmark. Engineer Rizwan Ashraf, Chairman APTPMA gave brief introduction of the association and said that about 400 member units of APTPMA are engaged in dyeing bleaching and printing of grey/woven fabric. In whole textile chain, being a wet processing industry our industry is water intensive industry and consumption of water is very huge in our textile processing industry for which we pay huge amount as aquifer charges since 1994 for extracting water from ground.
He further said that our big exporter members have installed in their units the primary and secondary waste water treatment plant, however our units who are manufacturing for local requirements have sedimentation tanks in their units to keep the waste water clean from various hazards of dyes & chemicals and to make this waste water for reuse purposes, our Govt of Punjab is installing a treatment plant to make the waste water of textile industry reusable. He said that textile processing industry uses skin-friendly dyes & chemicals.
Chairman APTPMA said that in Faisalabad city existing textile processing industry has covered with population areas, many years ago our industry shifted to Khurrianwala Industrial estate while a new industrial zone in collaboration with Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development Management Company (FIEDMC) and Govt of Punjab is being constructed at Sahianwala Industrial Estate in which all industry situated in inside Faisalabad city will be shifted. Work on land allotment has been completed, however, work on supply of basic infrastructure i.e. gas, electricity, sewerage, combined waste water treatment and other required facility is not yet completed. He said that machinery of our units situated in inside of Faisalabad city is very old and it is very difficult to shift this old machinery at new place/industrial zone, so we want to install new machinery there to compete the latest technology. We need soft loan from our govt for this purpose. According to commitment of supply of all required utility services shifting process of our said units to the new industrial estate could be started.
On this occasion, discussing on environmental pollution, Director Environment Department Faisalabad, Shoukat Hayat, said that with the cooperation of APTPMA they have succeeded to remove the smoke of chimenys of textile processing mills and now there are no issues regarding air pollution and fog with this industry. Ch. Habib Ahmed, Vice Chairman APTPMA also attended the meeting and thanked the honourable guests.
