A new spell of rain and snowfall is expected from Sunday to grip nearly all parts of the country from southern port city to the northern areas, the Met Office said on Saturday. A new weather system has entered the country that is likely to unleash widespread rain with snowfall over hills in Quetta, Kalat, Sibbi, Nasirabad, Makran, Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, DI Khan, DG Khan and Rawalpindi Divisions, besides Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Scattered falls are expected in Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Multan, Zhob, SH Benazirabad, Sukkur and Larkana Divisions. Snowfall from a moderate to heavy intensity over hills is also likely in Swat, Chitral, Kalam, Malamjabba, Upper Dir and Hazara Division, Murree and Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday.
Over the past 24 hours weather remained cold and dry in the most parts of the country. However, isolated rain was recorded in Malakand Division, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Minimum temperature was recorded in Astore as minus 10 degrees Celsius, Gupis minus 9, Bagrote minus 8, Kalam minus 7, Skardu minus 6, Hunza minus 5, Parachinar and Malamjabba minus 3, each, Dir minus 2, Drosh and Rawalakot minus 1, each.
Maximum rainfall was recorded in Kalam as 9 mm, Gilgit 8 mm, Malamjabba 4 mm, Bagrote 3 mm, Dir, Balakot and Garhidupatta 2 mm, each. Kalam received 2 inches of snowfall over the past 24 hours. "A fresh westerly wave is likely to enter upper parts of the country on Saturday and likely to grip most parts of the country on Sunday," the Met said.
