The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), which computes weekly inflation, for the combined income group has recorded yet another increase of 0.4 percent for the week ended January 10, data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS) said. According to SPI data, the SPI for the week under review for the combined income group stood at 6.19 percent and was recorded at 238.81 points against 237.85 points as compared with the previous week and in the lowest income group, the indicator also jumped up from 220.11 points to 221.23 points.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined income group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 6.19 percent, and for the lowest income group with a monthly income of Rs 8,000, it increased by 3.42 percent from 220.11 points to 221.23 points.
The weekly SPI is being computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
Meanwhile, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000 increased by 0.47 percent from 229.28 points to 230.36 points, for the income group with a monthly income of Rs 12,001-18,000, the SPI increased by 0.45 percent from 230.97 points to 232.01 points.
The SPI for the income group with a monthly salary of Rs 18,001-35,000 jumped up by 0.41 percent from 242.73 points to 243.72 points and the monthly income group of above Rs 35,000 the inflation increased by 0.34 percent from 247.58 points to 248.42 points.
During the week under review prices of following 24 essential daily use items witnessed an increase: garlic, sugar, onions, gur, eggs, cooking oil, beef, pulse Masoor, bananas, mutton, pulse gram, rice basmati, firewood whole, rice Irri, vegetable ghee (tin), tea, vegetable ghee (loose), pulse mash, pulse Moong, curd, wheat, red chilly, wheat flour, and fresh milk.
While average prices of four items registered a decrease, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder, chicken, potatoes and tomatoes.
Prices of following 25 essential commodities remained unchanged: plain bread, powdered milk Nido, mustard oil, salt powdered, cooked beef, cooked daal (lentil), average quality shirting, kerosene oil, gas charges up to 50 units, super petrol, high speed diesel, local call charges, Lifebuoy soap, gents chappal (shoe), ladies sandals and power tariff, etc.
