Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif never sought immunity despite having the right and presented himself for accountability. Addressing a news conference along with MNA Daniyal Aziz here on Tuesday, she said that the Prime Minister had himself underscored the need for formation of a joint investigation team (JIT).
The minister of state said that anti-terrorism court and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) summoned Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in two different cases on Tuesday but he did not appear. Regarding financial matters in the Supreme Court, Imran submitted that it was not public money which had been spent on Bani Gala, she added. Marriyum Aurangzeb said the chairman PTI has consistently been levelling false allegations against the Prime Minister and his family.
She further said that those who could not provide record of 10 years' money trail are demanding money trail and record of 30 years from the Sharif family. She said both JIT members Bilal Rasool and Amir Aziz are biased because of their association with the opposition parties. However, the Supreme Court has made it clear that it would intervene only if they found any bias, she added. Marriyum Aurangzeb said the Supreme Court has been provided with all relevant information and full co-operation is being extended to the JIT. Speaking on the occasion, MNA Daniyal Aziz said that the Prime Minister has always cooperated with the court and presented himself before the law of the land. He said that the objections raised by Hussain Nawaz on two members of the JIT are being politicised by political opponents. Daniyal Aziz said that Hussain Nawaz appeared before the JIT and recorded his statement at scheduled time.
