Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid a surprise visit to Lahore Orange Metro Line Train Project route and reviewed progress of construction work on the project from Thokar Niaz Beig to Dera Gujran Sunday. The Chief Minister also presided over meetings at site offices near Thokar Niaz Baig and University of Engineering & Technology in which he was informed about the progress of civil works on package-I and package-II of the project. This visit of the Chief Minister lasted four hours.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the progress made on civil works of the metro train project and issued necessary instructions to the concerned authorities and contractors.
The Chief Minister not only himself inspected construction work at different sites but also talked to the labourers, citizens and shopkeepers and mingled with them. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that metro train project will provide quality, affordable and speedy travelling facilities of international standard to the common man and a revolution will be brought in transport sector with the completion of this project. He said that students, labourers, working women, farmers, doctors, nurses and common citizens will reach their destinations in time. He said that every step is being taken for the betterment of the masses.
He said that metro train project will be completed and common man will travel with honour, respect and pride in metro train after completion of this great project. Shahbaz Sharif said that he realises temporary troubles of citizens, which will soon convert into permanent relief.
He said that this project is one of its kinds in Pakistan, which will provide modern travelling facilities to the citizens. The Chief Minister said that he is personally monitoring the pace of progress of the project.
He appreciated the hard work of labourers and said that they should continue the work with the same zeal and zest. He said that this great project will totally change the transport culture and common man will reach his destination in a respectable manner. Addressing the meetings at site offices, the Chief Minister said he is happy that construction work is being completed with high standard upon which he congratulated concerned authorities. He said that work should be continued on the project with the same determination and hard work and construction work be completed within the stipulated period. Shahbaz Sharif said that foolproof arrangements should be ensured during the work on the project at any cost and there should be special arrangements for red light at night so that citizens could become aware in time.
He said that this project is a trend-setter regarding provision of travelling facilities of international standard in the history of the country. He said that work should be done with national spirit and no compromise would be made on quality of construction work. The Chief Minister issued instructions to complete the civil works in time with high standard.
He expressed satisfaction over the work in a high level meeting held at site office of University of Engineering & Technology and gave "Shabash" to the officers, staff and contractors of the departments working on the project and lauded their hard work. He said that Lahore Orange Metro Line Train project is the biggest and unique project in the history and a project of the entire country. The Chief Minister issued instructions to Commissioner and DCO to sprinkle water regularly on the route of metro train to safe the people from dirt and dust and proper arrangements of lights are essential during work at night. He also directed CTO to make best arrangements for smooth flow of traffic alongside the route of the project and added that citizens should not face any difficulty in this regard.
He directed Lahore Waste Management Company to make proper cleanliness arrangements on the route. He issued instructions to contractors that safety of workers is their responsibility and they should ensure implementation of the procedures evolved for safety of workers during work and added that labourers should wear helmets during work. He said that there should also be proper arrangements of food and cold drinking water for the labourers. He said that instructions issued to facilitate the citizens should be implemented in letter and spirit. The Chief Minister also inspected the depot constructed for the project at Dera Gujran.
DG LDA Ahad Cheema gave a detailed briefing regarding progress of construction work. Citizens and shopkeepers thanked the Chief Minister for starting project for common man and prayed for him. They also prayed for early completion of the project. They said that orange line metro train is a splendid public project which will provide best travelling facilities to the citizens.
They said that the Chief Minister has started excellent project for the convenience of the people and work is being carried out speedily on the project.
They said that no doubt, Punjab government has completed several projects in record period and this project will also be completed within the timeframe. Members Assembly Afzal Khokhar, Saif-ul-Malook, Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, MD Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Commissioner Lahore Division, DG LDA, DCO Lahore, MD NESPAK and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.
