A labourer was killed and two sustained severe injuries on Sunday when they were fired at by an extortionist over refusal to pay 'bhatha' (extortion money) of Rs200 in Nishtar Colony here.
The alleged extortionist namely Siddique demanded Rs200 from Javed, a worker of Kahna vegetable market. On Javed's refusal, he opened fire and injured Javed and his two companions. They were shifted to General Hospital where Javed succumbed to his injuries.
Relatives of the deceased later staged a protest in front of the Chief Minister House and dispersed when they were assured by the authorities of earlier arrest of the suspect.
