Former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), Naeem Akhtar Sheikh, has been appointed president of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), an apex body of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), for the year 2016.
Naeem Sheikh, who was SAFA's vice president, last year, has also served as a committee chairman of government Virtual Knowledge and Training Centre (VKTC), SAFA. He was also technical adviser to the International Federation of Accountants' (IFAC) Professional Accountancy Organisation Development Committee.
A senior partner in the UHY Hassan Naeem & Co Chartered Accountants and the ICAP's council member since 2009, Sheikh has also been chairman of various committees, including Investigation, Education & Training and Professional Standard and Technical Advisory committees. SAFA formed in 1984 has, at present, membership of 10 accounting institutions in six SAARC countries - Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives. Bhutan and Afghanistan, where no accountancy body exists, have been given status of observer.
