The Central Shoora of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, has expressed deep concern over the promotion of nudity, obscenity and wickedness in society through the pro-liberalism media and has called upon the government to take practical steps to foil the West's conspiracy to put the country on the path of secularism.
A resolution adopted by the JI central advisory body said that international as well as domestic NGOs were spending billions to shatter our family system and to distance our people from their values and traditions, and the women and the youth were their main target. It said the silence of the government on this issue was an indication of its consent.
The Shoora said it was the constitutional responsibility of the government to protect the Islamic identity of the country and to promote Islamic teachings and values through the education system and the media. The resolution said that there was no serious move to check the exploitation of the women folk in the society. Instead, the media was being used for women's exploitation. It demanded that instead of bracketing the madressahs with terrorism, efforts should be made to known the real problems of the seminaries and for their solution.
In another resolution, the Shoora termed the government move for privatisation of major national institutions an anti- worker and said that the presidential ordinance concerning the PIA was against the interests of the nation and the country. It demanded the withdrawal of the ordinance and ending the privatisation process under that. The Shoora also opposed the privatization of WAPDA distribution companies, OGDC, Steel Mill and Railways.
The Shooora said that the so-called Kisan package was yet another tool for exploitation and ridicule of the small farmer and had opened another door of corruption. It said that a better way to help the farmer would have been to cut down prices of pesticides and fertilizer through subsidy, as it would have benefited all farmers. A resolution related to the youth urged the government to adopt revolutionary measures to promote literacy and healthy activities among the youth and for their employment and also to check corruption, and the murder of merit, besides the spread of narcotics and vulgarity among the young men and women.
