The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking direction to stop Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over likely inclusion of convict fast bowler Mohammad Amir. Pakistan Justice Party head Malik Munsaf Awan contended in his petition that former captain Salman Butt, bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were banned for spot fixing during the Pakistan team's tour of England in 2010.
He submitted that the trio, who also served jail sentences in the United Kingdom, were given minimum five year bans by the anti-corruption tribunal of the international Cricket Council (ICC) but while the ban for Butt and Amir ends in August 2015, the former also has been given a two-year suspended sentence. He said that Amir was allowed to return to cricket. He submitted that Amir hurt the dignity of Pakistan and earned bad name to the country. He asserted that a convicted person should not be included in the team. The PCB counsel Taffazal Razvi said that the petitioner was not an aggrieved person and hence he could not move the petition. He said that Amir had completed his ban and as per country's constitution he had every right to play cricket.
