Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday left for Islamabad to discuss the Rangers' powers issue with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. PM had summoned the Qaim Ali Shah to hold meeting on the issue after former did not spare time for latter to discuss the growing discord between center and province on Rangers' powers issues.
Chief Minister has arrived in Islamabad accompanied by Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah. Sources close to the development said that Qaim Ali Shah, before leaving for Islamabad chaired a high level meeting at CM house in to discuss the agenda of his meeting with Nawaz Sharif. All the senior ministers of Sindh cabinet attended the meeting.
According to the political experts, Sindh government, it seems, has bowed down to the federal government after it received clear message from the center that Rangers' powers would not be compromised. Chief minister Sindh would present his government reservations to Nawaz Sharif, about Rangers extensions in powers in the city besides he would also try to negotiate the issue of Dr Asim Hussain with premier.
Earlier, taking to private news channel, Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said there was no suggestion under consideration to impose governor rule in Sindh while the issue of 'Rangers special powers' would be addressed politically.
"We are political people and do not want confrontation," the minister said, adding It was Pakistan Peoples Party's right to raise objections, which would also be addressed politically. He said the operation in Karachi would be continued till achievements of all the set targets, including restoration of complete peace in the big city. Peace in the Karachi, he said, was in fact linked to peace in the country. Replying to a question, the minister said terrorism and corruption were inter-linked and both the hazards should be treated similarly. The law enforcement agencies, he said, were rendering sacrifices in the Karachi operation and its achievements could not be reversed.
