Microsoft Pakistan Country Manager Nadeem Malik on Monday said that Pakistan is among the countries where pirated windows ratio is highest. The under consideration "cyber law" is crucial to protect idea protection, ensure and respect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and control the piracy trend, said Malik while addressing a briefing organised by Microsoft Pakistan with the theme "Upgrade Your World" campaign. The event was part of the campaign where benefits of optimum utilisation of Windows 10 were shared, which has been globally launched recently.
The government needs to provide a conducive business environment in respect to taxation and policies, said Malik, adding that contrary to India, Information Technology industry boundaries are yet to be defined in Pakistan. He also announced that windows prices in Pakistan have been decreased for the licensed customers to overcome the menace of piracy and make it affordable for talented people. He said that several projects of Microsoft to increase the CSR coverage and reach out to the talent are under consideration with the government.
Pakistan has great potential, talent and absorption capacity. Every dollar spent on Microsoft products purchasing will add $8 to the country economy, he added. The Upgrade Your World campaign was launched in Pakistan in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to highlight the benefits of utilising the latest Microsoft Windows 10 - best ever Windows, among school and college students.
The campaign started from the city of Bahawalpur on November 10, 2015. This campaign later proceeded northwards, through various rural and urban areas of Pakistan, visiting prominent academic institutions in numerous cities and towns. The initiative concluded in Islamabad on November 20, 2015.
Malik said, "Microsoft is striving on unleashing the economic and technological potential of Pakistan by creating fresh opportunities for young generation, thus making a positive impact in the country. I believe technology is an enabler at every level of society and it is a mission of Microsoft Pakistan to enrich the lives of the vibrant youth. I am enthusiastic about fostering meaningful 21st century skills among our youth."

On the global scale, the Upgrade Your World campaign is being conducted throughout various significant regions such as Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, Sao Paolo, and New York.
