The Supreme Court was informed that Sindh police appointed a total of 9,683 constables, out of whom only 1,597 were appointed on merit in various districts of the province during 2013-14. Submitting a detailed report on Saturday in pursuance of the apex court's earlier directives, additional inspector general of Sindh police Khadam Hussain Bhatti said that 1,597 slots were filled out of merit list.
The report disclosed that 654 persons were appointed against the slots out of final merit list, 702 were appointed in excess as per produced vacancies, 147 were appointed out of district domicile basis and 144 over-aged persons were also appointed. While hearing a human rights case regarding alleged corruption of billions in appointment in Sindh police on November 19, 2015, a three-member judge bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali had sought comprehensive report from the concerned authorities in the matter.
