The new students of Fall session 2015-16 received a rousing welcome from the faculty, administration and senior students at the orientation ceremony held at University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, here on Monday. Almost 500 students attended the ceremony.
In his welcome speech at the orientation ceremony, Vice Chancellor Engr Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani urged new entrants to make good use of their time to enrich their university experience, build up social networks, interact with people from different cultures, and broaden their horizons. By doing so, they shall equip themselves to meet the present and future challenges and the intense competition, he added.
Regarding maintaining discipline, he urged the students not to take part in politics. "It is easy to get influenced by the environment around us. But our model is different from others and we have no slack in our system. If any student is found violating the university conduct and discipline rules, clearly mentioned in the university prospectus, university will immediately take disciplinary action which may lead to punitive action. So please go through the prospectus and live by the book," he advised. Professor Dr Innayatullah Khan Babar, Registrar, UET Peshawar, and Dr Laiq Hasan, Director Admissions, also welcomed the new students and made orientation presentations about the university and its extra-curricular activities.
