The people belonging to Bheel, Kohli and Oad community from Umerkot outside Hyderabad Press Club on Monday protested against the sitting Sindh Minister for allegedly threatening and pressurising the community's candidates to withdraw from contesting local bodies' elections.
A large number of protestors by Babari Bheel and others were holding banners inscribed with message of condemnation of atrocities against religious minorities and were chanting slogans against the police and Sindh Minister. Speaking on the occasion, they said that they had formed alliance with local people of different communities including local Shah Communities to elect real representatives in the local bodies' elections to resolve their problems.
The alliance was formed because feudal and sitting representatives had disappointed local people, they claimed. The announcement had annoyed local feudals including Ali Mardan Shah, they alleged. When the community did not agree to withdraw their candidates and refused to support local feudals in local bodies' elections, Shah started to victimise them, they said.
On the directives, local PPP leadership, Umerkot police launched a crackdown against communities whereas it detained four persons including Ghanar, Hakim Bheel, Raji Bheel and Bhago Bheel and shifted them to unknown location, they said. Ghanar and Hakim Bheel were released after the prolonged protest by the community held at Umerkot and Hyderabad but Raji Bheel and Bhago Bheel are still under custody of the police, they asserted. They warned that they would expand the scope of protest if detained persons were not released.
