Chairman of board of directors of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) Khalid Masud said here on Friday that all the projects must be designed in accordance with the emerging climatic changes. He was speaking at a ceremony organised by the officials of the Un-plasticized Poly Vinyl Chloride-based Spiral Piping System (SPS), which the WSSP intends to introduce in Peshawar to overcome sanitation, flood and storm-water drainage system that has been affected with recent climatic changes in the region.
It was attended, among others, by WSSP chief executive officer Engr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Board of Directors' members Senator Nauman Wazir, Engr Usman Marwat, general manager (Operations) Nasir Ghafoor Khan, general manager (Projects) Attaur Rehamn, Iabal Yunis, zonal mangers and representatives of Peshawar Municipal Corporation.
Participants of the meeting were informed that the recently introduced UPVC-based Spiral Piping System (SPS) is widely used in several countries, including Iraq, Hungary, Albania and Bulgaria. The meeting decided that the WSSP's engineering wing will conduct analysis of the UPVC pipes before presenting a detailed report to the BoD. It also decided to request the chief minister to direct all the concerned departments to consult the WSSP before launching any developmental project so as to save the city's water and sewerage system from being damaged.
Khalid Masood said that the WSSP in the wake of climate changes is required to prepare a detailed master plan for Peshawar. The WSSP's chief executive officer Muhammad Naeem Khan said that a master plan had been prepared for drinking water, sanitation and solid waste management. Regarding UPVC-based Spiral Piping System, he said though the UPVC pipes were of importance, their performance will be critically evaluated. Earlier, Aftab Jillani, a representative of the firm manufacturing UPVC-based Spiral Piping System, said that UPVC pipes have been used in drains, culverts, highways and even in hydro-power projects undertaken by his company in Pakistan.
