The Karachi Port handled 185,355 tonnes of cargo comprising 157,571 tonnes of import cargo and 27,784 tonnes of export cargo including 7,432 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 157,571 tonnes comprised of 45,955 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,194 tonnes of general cargo; 26,493 tonnes of bulk cargo: 18,600 tonnes of coal; 4,885 tonnes of DAP; 3,008 tonnes of SB meal and 81,929 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 27,784 tonnes comprised of 25,674 tonnes of containerised cargo; 294 tonnes of general cargo and 1,816 tonnes of cement. As many as 7,432 containers comprising of 4,054 containers import and 3,378 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 822 of 20's and 1,514 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 102 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 599 of 20's and 464 40's loaded containers while 727 of 20's and 562 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely AS Carelia, Kota Kasturi, APL Cyprine, Al Saada, Bhairavi and Kiran Europe carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Kota Kasturi, X-Press Kailash, Bhairavi, Anne Kjersti, JS Yangtse and Ru Yi Song carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely X-Press Kailash and Sima Prestige carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while five ships namely SSL Chennai, Dia Nam, Ashahda, Anne Kjersti and NEO carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and DAP respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There were three vessels viz. YM Express, KMTC Dubai and Veenus carrying containers and SB meal respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while five vessels viz. PAC Aries, Hyundai Highness, Duck Hunter, Stolt Spray and MT Karachi carrying containers and oil tankers respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
