Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has directed officers of concerned departments to enhance their performance and make serious efforts to control dengue completely. He also directed that special attention should be paid to Rawalpindi, most sensitive area for dengue.
He stated this while chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee at the Civil Secretariat here on Monday. Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Syed Mubashir Raza, Members of Punjab Assembly Lubna Faisal, Peer Ashraf and Chaudhry Mohammad Akram, Secretary Health Jawwad Rafique Malik, senior officers of all the concerned departments, public health experts, Incharge Chief Minister's Dengue Research Cell Professor Waseem Akram, Punjab Information Technology Board officers and federal departments also attended the meeting.
Additional Director General Health Dengue Control, Dr Islam Zafar presented a review regarding dengue situation in Punjab particularly in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Sheikhupura. He told that dengue larvae is being detected in a large number in Cantt, Rawal Town, Rawalpindi and adjacent areas of Islamabad and patients are also being reported from these areas. He claimed that satisfactory arrangements had been made for the treatment of dengue patients.
Professor Akram said there should be effective arrangements for removal of solid waste in urban areas including Rawalpindi so that accumulated rainwater and the solid waste could not become dengue hotspots. He also said water stored in the pots for birds on the rooftops was also a source of dengue breeding. Additional Chief Secretary Syed Mubashir Raza urged the officers to take effective measures in accordance with SOPs for dengue control.
Advisor Rafique will hold a special meeting of senior officers of all departments on Tuesday (today) in the office of Commissioner Rawalpindi to evolve effective strategy for controlling dengue in Cantt area and Rawal Town and in the adjacent areas of Islamabad.
