National Assembly Sub-Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has expressed serious concern over monitoring, registration and regulation of private schools in Islamabad and recommended to chalk out standard criteria for improvement in education. The sub-committee met with Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli in the chair at the Parliament House on Tuesday. Malik Ubrar Ahmed, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Nigat Parveen Mir, Dr Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto and other participated in the meeting. The meeting examined draft of Private Education Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) Rules for improvement.
The members of the Committee expressed concern that only over six officials are monitoring private schools, which is far less than those required for monitoring schools of whole Islamabad.
When the members asked about the security of the private schools, an official of Cabinet Secretariat told the Committee that Islamabad Police and special branch audit the security issues. However, the members of the Committee were not satisfied with the security measures in the private schools. The minister said that we have prepared draft legislation of private education institutions regulatory authority. He said that the draft is to ensure the uniform policy and curricula according to federal scheme of studies, rate of fee being charged by schools, qualification of teaching staff, their terms and conditions of service, including salaries and its mode of payment.
