The Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (LPGA) has castigated the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) for making a hefty increase in the LPG prices and termed it an "anti-masses decision". In a statement issued on Saturday, Liquefied Petroleum Gas boss Farooq Iftikhar said the gas company had "dropped a bomb on the public" by making a massive increase of around Rs 5000 per tone and that consumers were expecting cuts in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas in the wake of Ramazan but the gas company had made an increase instead of giving any relief.
"The gas company has to withdraw the Liquefied Petroleum Gas price hike decision as the 'LPG shock' is bound to hit the economy and the public," he said. The government's prices are already at the highest level and any further increase will prove the last straw that breaks the camel's back.
The Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association of Pakistan has had for the last many months been calling on the concerned government circles to take measures to promote alternate fuels, such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas, that will certainly cut the burden on the conventional fuel sector." He also criticised the timeline for the increase in the prices that was also raising questions because at a time when the public was suffering because of the energy crisis and the rising POL prices, the raise in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas prices was bound to give a further blow to the industry. He then demanded that the gas company drop the decision.
