The founder and leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain Saturday strongly condemned the unscheduled loadshedding and electricity breakdown throughout the country, including Karachi, during Ramazan amid peak summer days. In a statement issued from London Secretariat, the MQM Chief said the breakdown during Sehri, Taraveeh and Iftar was not only shocking and shameful but also weird to comprehend.
He said that the nation was witness to various claims to end the loadshedding monster but all the claims were not more than political juggling either by the democratic or dictatorial regimes. Hussain said former governments signed various pacts with foreign countries to meet the need of electricity but the money ultimately went to their pockets rather to buy electricity. He said that 2 percent of the privileged class had neither to face such loadshedding or electricity breakdown nor suffered from water crisis.
Altaf said people should present their issues such as electricity, water crisis and others to the army establishment rather requesting the corrupt and incompetent rulers. He condemned the government for taking credits in the name of people's issues but funds being remained in the pockets of the government officials. Meanwhile, in a statement issued separately, the MQM Co-ordination Committee expressed concern over the current electricity situation in Karachi during Ramazan. It said the demand for electricity had risen due to hot weather, but the K Electric was not generating enough power to meet the growing demand. The Co-ordination Committee said that this widening shortfall in the generation of electricity and demand was the major cause of frequent tripping of feeders, short circuits and breaking of wires.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the K Electric management should ensure that faults are rectified within a reasonable time as prolonged power outages could lead to law and order situation in the city. The Committee urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to direct the K Electric management to generate enough electricity during Ramazan to keep the load-shedding at a bare minimum level and eliminating load-shedding at Sehr and Iftar times.
