An uneasy calm prevailed in the metropolis here Saturday as a shutter-down strike against the Mastung massacre was observed by people. The bodies were brought to M A Jinnah Road to be taken to the Governor's House by the heirs of the deceased to stage a protest.
The political leadership and administration tried to pacify protesters and to convince them to bury their loved ones but the angry protesters refused to do so and insisted that they be allowed to move ahead and stage a sit-in in front of the Governor's House.
"We would not leave the place unless top men in the provincial setup assure us that those involved in the mass killings would be arrested and punished accordingly," protesters told Provincial senior minister Abdul Raheem Ziaratwal. "Our men were going to Karachi in search of work, had nothing to do with politics of any kind but they were brutally killed," protesters told the government team which kept trying to cool down the tempers, asking them to perform last rituals. The city roads remained deserted till the filing of this report. Police and law enforcers are on high alert and patrolling the city streets.
