Dazzling Muhammad Rizwan blasted a maiden double hundred and Khurram Shahzad smashed an attacking hundred as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) tightened their grip in their Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy Gold League final against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on Wednesday.
Replying to NBP's modest first innings score of 242, defending champion SNGPL was bowled out for 543 in their first outing minutes before stumps - thus taking a massive 301-run lead on third day of their 5-day game. 22-year-old fast rising, Rizwan got the attention of the cricket pundits during his career best knock of 224, striking 28 boundaries. He batted for eight and half hours faced 399 balls.
Khurram Shahzad also struck a spectacular 120 banging 14 boundaries and hoisting three sixes in his 165-ball knock in 240 minutes stay at the crease. Rizwan and Khurram plundered the bank's bowling attack during their 215 runs 5th wicket stand. Pakistan's discarded wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal made a fine 57 in 158 minutes with half a dozen boundaries. Adnan also added 94-run for the 7th wicket with Rizwan.
Left arm spinner Fawad Alam grabbed three quick wickets as SNGPL lost their last five wickets for 33 runs. Fawad finished as the most successful bowler with three wickets for 33 run sin 12 overs. Another slow left arm bowler Hasan Raza bowled 52 overs and ended with two wickets for 161 runs. Pakistan's left arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz looked unimpressive finishing with one wicket for 70 runs in 26 overs.
