Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Major General Aleem said the flood situation is being monitored round the clock and district administrations and other concerned departments are ready to meet any emergency. Talking to media persons here on Thursday, he said currently the flood situation has been brought under control through strict protective measures in Sindh adding that rescue and relief efforts are underway in flood-hit areas of Punjab.
Major Aleem said a sufficient number of boats and helicopters are carrying out smooth rescue and relief activities in flood-affected areas, he added while describing the relief operation being carried out in the flood-hit areas. He said NDMA and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) are fully active in this regard. He said the Sukkur and Guddu barrages have the capacity to sustain around one million of cusecs water. However, the NDMA has asked the Sindh government to evacuate people from slums constructed along River Indus, especially Katcha area as a precautionary measure.
To a question, NDMA Chief said all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Sukkur and Larkana regions have prepared their contingency plans for floods and that provincial administration has maintained active co-ordination with the districts and local line departments to ensure timely response and is addressing needs of the affected people. He also appreciated Irrigation Department for closely monitoring the protective bunds and canal embankments adding that Health Department is also on board and providing necessary services.
