Veteran parliamentarian and chief of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Thursday said that both civilian and military leadership should be on the same page for the survival of the country. "The need of the hour is to send a message to the world that political and military leadership in Pakistan are united," he maintained.
Speaking on a point of order in National Assembly, he suggested the formation of a front/alliance comprising political forces, media and judges to safeguard the existing system in the country. He urged that a joint sitting of the parliament or an All-Party Conference (APC) should be convened in view of threats to democracy. He urged the leadership of all major political parties to join hands to move democracy forward.
Instead of holding public rallies in different cities of the country, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan should bring improvement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to him. Expressing anger over the demands made by Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Dr Tahirul Qadri that Army should take control of security of the airport on the day of his return, Achakzai hurled question: "Who are you to make such a demand?"
