Omar Khalid becomes first Pakistani golfer to earn NCAA All-Conference honours

Pakistani golfer Omar Khalid Hussain has become the first player from the country to be named to the NCAA Division I All-Conference Team after finishing third at the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Men’s Golf Championship in Illinois according to a press release.

Representing the University of Evansville, Omar secured third place at the championship held at Annbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Illinois, on Tuesday.

His finish earned him a place on the All-Conference roster, marking a first for a Pakistani golfer in top-tier American collegiate athletics.

He opened the tournament with a seven-under-par 65, the second-lowest round in his university’s history, before posting rounds of 72 and 69 to complete the 54-hole event.

The latest achievement adds to a growing list of milestones in his career.

In September 2025, Omar became the first Pakistani golfer to win a title on American soil after claiming the Fendrich Open in Indiana. He finished the tournament at 14-under par after an opening round of nine-under 61.

Omar has represented Pakistan in several major international events, including the Asian Games, the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy), and the British Amateur.

He was also shortlisted for the Junior Presidents Cup, another first for a Pakistani golfer.

Earlier in his career, he became the youngest winner of the Pakistan National Amateur Championship at the age of 16 and was the first Pakistani golfer to break into the top 10 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) for players aged 17 and under.

He is also the only golfer from Pakistan to make the cut at a USGA Championship.

His latest NCAA recognition is seen as another significant step for Pakistani golf on the international stage.
