KARACHI: Sindh Government has issued a fresh weather alert warning of thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail as a westerly weather system is forecast to intensify in the coming days.
The Disaster Management Authority and Rehabilitation, Sindh said the system, which entered the region on the evening of March 24, is expected to strengthen from the night of March 27 and persist through March 31, citing forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Rain and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms, are likely in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Larkana on March 26, with intermittent rainfall expected again on March 28 and 29, the statement said.
Authorities warned that strong winds, lightning and hail could damage weak structures, including electricity poles, billboards and solar panels, as well as standing crops in agricultural areas.
Tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement, while farmers have been urged to plan activities in line with the changing weather conditions. A drop in daytime temperatures is also expected during the forecast period.
Provincial authorities said all DCs and district disaster management bodies have been directed to remain on alert and take precautionary measures to minimise potential damage and respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Pakistan frequently experiences extreme weather situations, and officials have in recent years stepped up preparedness efforts, particularly in vulnerable regions such as Sindh.
