No political or malicious interests undermining security to be tolerated: army top brass

Pakistan’s top military leadership on Wednesday made it clear that no political or other malicious interests aimed at undermining national security, unity or stability will be tolerated, as the Corps Commanders’ Conference categorically rejected any nexus between terrorism, crime and vested political agendas, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The 273rd Corps Commanders’ Conference, chaired by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), offered Fateha for the martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians who lost their lives in recent terrorist incidents while defending the country against what the forum described as foreign-sponsored terrorism.

Paying tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces, Field Marshal Munir appreciated their sustained intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations across the country in recent months.

He said that, owing to the combined efforts of the government, the military, and the steadfast support of the people, Pakistan was steadily moving towards greater stability, opportunity, and respect.

The forum conducted a comprehensive review of the internal and external security environment, with a focus on evolving threats and operational preparedness. Participants reiterated that all terrorists, along with their facilitators and abettors operating under Indian patronage, would be dealt with decisively and without exception.

The conference stressed that no attempt to create divisions between the armed forces and the people would be allowed, underscoring the importance of national cohesion in addressing security challenges.

The forum appreciated the Balochistan Special Development Initiatives aimed at local empowerment and social engagement to address governance-related drivers of terrorism, and noted the need for similar public-centric measures elsewhere in the country in line with the National Action Plan.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy positions, the conference reiterated Islamabad’s continued support for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people and restated its principled stance on Palestine, calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, and a credible pathway towards Palestinian statehood.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Munir directed commanders to maintain the highest standards of operational readiness, discipline, training, physical fitness and technological innovation. He expressed confidence in the Pakistan Army’s ability to counter the full spectrum of threats, ranging from conventional and sub-conventional to hybrid and asymmetric challenges, while safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
